Default180 series Mini-14 question

I recently was able to acquire a 180 series "Liberty" Mini-14.

I assume this means it was manufactured in 1976.

It looks to be in real good shape with very little wear. I am not sure though if the upper hand guard is "proper". The upper hand guard is solid wood. Should it not be the wooden upper with the black metal band running across it?

Thanks.

Yes your right the 180 has a band on the hand guard. Mine is a 181 and they changed it to a brad to hold a clip to attach to barrel.

I have located a 180 upper hand guard but the seller wants $50 for it. Is that a good deal?

I had the original 180, but discovered Ruger wasn't manufacturing some replacement parts, traded for new Ranch rifle. Suggest you contact Ruger to grab them if available.
