Went To The Range Today
It had been a few months since we have made it to the range. My wife was near the end of her pregnancy, and her doctor had put her on bedrest. I enjoy shooting a lot, but I always want my wife to go with me. Its just one more way to spend time together.
Well, we were finally able to go today. We shot my Winchester 30-30 for the first time, and I absolutely love lever guns. It was very fun. We only shot 10 rounds through it, because we only had one box of 20. My wife didn't appreciate the recoil, but she's also sick and achy, so I think if she were at full health she wouldn't mind it. She doesn't have any problem shooting my Mauser in .308 on normal days.
We also shot our 20 gauge bolt action shot gun. That was a lot of fun, too. We shot all bird shot. Some size 4, some size 7, and some size 8. I really enjoy that shotgun.
We shot our Ruger 10-22 as well. We didn't put a lot of rounds through it, only about 40 or so. That was fun, of course, but slightly less fun because we don't have a spotting scope, so we had no idea where we were hitting. This was an outdoor range, so we have to wait for a cease fire before we can look at the target.
We didn't have a single hiccup with any of the long guns.
Then we moved onto our pistols. Her M&P9, full size, and my M&P9c. We shot entirely my reloads, so there were a few problems here or there. None of them were due to the guns, though. I'm not a competition shooter, so if my reloads have small problems occassionaly, it doesn't bother me. They aren't unsafe, so that's what important. Besides, getting failures allows us to practice clearing the obstructions.
All things considered, it was a very fun day. I wish we could make it to the range more often. Hopefully someday I'll be able to have a range at my house.
Always have clean socks.
