Tikka T3 Range Report

I went shooting today with a couple of friends to a nearby Air Force baseīs range. Weather was really nice and we had the 150m range to ourselves for the first hour or so. This was my fourth trip to the range with the Tikka and this time I finally remembered to take the camera with me. So far Iīve been happy with the gun and the Sightron scope, now Iīm looking for the ammo that works best in this gun. Iīve tried Sakoīs 125gr Range FMJ, Hornadyīs 150gr FMJ, Lapuaīs 155gr Scenar HP and some handloaded 167gr Lapua Scenar HPs. It seems that the gun likes the heavier bullets better so Iīll have to test more of those.

One of my friends was shooting with his fatherīs original Russian made Mosin manufactured in 1895! What a beautiful gun and it actually shot quite well for itīs age. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it but will get one next time he has it with him.

After we were finished shooting the rifles, we went to the pistol range with my friend and his father. Blasted a few rounds off with his fatherīs CZ75, which was a lot of fun since I don't get to shoot with handguns that often. We were in a hurry because the range was closing and I forgot the camera to my car, so no pictures of this either

Here are the pictures I took:

I know that the gun would shoot a lot better than this, the problem is behind the trigger :o Just need to practice more..

That's some very nice shootin'. I didn't see your previous thread on the rifle, so I want to ask what's the caliber?

AleksiR 08-01-2011 08:29 PM

Oh, forgot that again :D Itīs .308Win

That's some pretty accurate shooting. It will get even better as you become more familiar and comfortable with the rifle.

I had a hunch it was .308 due to the grain weights. Your rifle looks like it's a high quality piece :D. How does it handle?

Haha, thanks. Itīs fairly well balanced with just the scope and the bolt is unbelievably smooth. The supressor I have on the gun works well but destroys the balance so Iīve been thinking of getting a lighter one.

AleksiR,Great report.
Those Tikka's are excellent rifles, and it looks like yours is shooting good. You'll be shooting tiny groups with it in no time with a little practice.
