Default Sig Sauer P229's first trip to the range

I took a trip to the range today with the wife and the new P229 9mm. This gun just feels so comfy in my hand. The wife thought it was a little heavy. We are both rookies when it comes to shooting but I think we did pretty good.

We shot about 150 rounds between us. I'm not sure what distance is best for practice but we shot at 7 yards and 10 yards tonight. I would love some feedback on the distances at which most people practice.

The first target is my best target at 7 yards. I put 12 out 13 rounds inside 3 inches. That felt pretty good. (I'm not showing my crappy warm up targets).

Then for fun we put on the laser and shot at 10 yards. Here is the wifey's...

Here is mine...

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Very nice. Take your time and practice the fundamentals. Speed comes with time.

Good shooting, I'm betting the group will tighten up quite a bit when you get it broken in. I usually pratice at 14 yards and do a little at 21 yards. After getting used to it; 7 yards comes easy. And I don't blow thru my ammo as fast at the longer distances, it seems to help me slow my shots down.

Again, good shooting and that sure is a fine firearm you got!

Very nice, Miller clan! I've become a big fan of Sig Sauer recently, and it appears to me that you're doing justice to that weapon's potential just fine .

Keep shooting, and have fun!

That is a fiiiiiiine looking P229. I'm also a relatively new Sig owner (SP2022 9mm), and I'm quite pleased with the feel and performance of it as well. Sig Sauers are just fan-freaking-tastic... no complaints here (and this is all coming from a die-hard revolver girl).

I took mine out to about 15 yards or so the first time I took it out. Like you, I had some rough warm-up targets. I chalked that up to a) getting to know a new weapon, and b) not being that great of a shooter. After about 4 or 5 targets, the Sig starts talking to you. It is indeed a great relationship

nice shooting there, or grouping i should say maybe....

one nice thing i noticed about my Sig (finally having a chance to shoot outside) that is not real evident at an indoor range with the lane guards is the nice ejection placement.

i'm assuming this is the case for all Sig's but i noticed after unloading a few 15 rnd mags that all the casings were in the same 1' diameter circle about 3' from where i was standing. One of the fellas with us watching even commented on how all the casings popped out and all landed in the same spot.

anyhoots, nice Sig....Enjoy!!
