Default Savage .17 HMR

Dialing in my new Savage .17 HMR fluted heavy barrel and 3-9 bushnell. Shooting from a boulder at about 80yds with harris bi-pod. 5 shot groups

I am really starting to like the gun, its a ton of fun for a small caliber bolt gun.

I really like the .17 for a fun plinking bolt gun, or small varmint.. From what Ive read its not much good past 150-200 yds. No comparison to a .223 though.

Even a .223 at 300 drops fast. A 17 or 20gr .17HMR sheds energy and velocity even faster. 150 yards is about max w/ a breeze. 200 yards, good luck hitting anything. I use a 4-16x42mmAO on mine, hard to find small targets that move at 100+ in the tall grass. They are good for, as the OP stated plinking and vermin at shorter distance. They are fun!
