saturday at the range

first one of these range reports. i went this afternoon and this is how i did:

1] remington 700 .30-06 with williams peep sight and front bead (gold)

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pdx/rifle2.jpg

shooting basic remington green and white box target/varmit loads with 150 grain mc bullets at 100 yards with a wooden block rest.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...letartgets.jpg

the first one (left) was the sight in group. the ones on the outside were me getting it sighted (first time shooting through these sights) but i had it pretty well dialed in on the last four shots.

the second one (right) was ok considering the bead on my front sight covered the whole black area on the target at that distance. however, the last two shots did go a little wild (the two topmost holes).

2] ruger security six .357 mag and american arms cx-.22lr

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...dx/pistols.jpg

shooting remington .38 special 158 grain lead and bvac .22lr 36 grain high velocity hollow point

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...toltargets.jpg

(left) the .357 shooting the .38s
(right) the .22 semi rapid firing

both at about 20 feet away

i know, not as good as some shooters around here, but not too bad for me. and most importantly, i had fun doing it....

Nice! Good to see someone else who enjoys shooting with iron sights.

i originally thought the peep sight would just be to get me shooting until i came up with money for a good scope, but i kinda had fun with it today. i might just keep this gun the way it is now and get another rifle sometime in the future that i can use for scoped long distance shooting.

but that's somewhere down the road, for now the remmy 700 with peep sights is my main rifle...and i'm ok with that. i don't need dime sized groups, i just want to hit what i'm aiming at consistently.

I'm guessing you can get some amazing groups with your peeps.
I prefer a scope for low light but not necessarily for better accuracy, though they do help with long range stuff.

Glad you like your peep sights. I wish I still had great vision,I miss shooting with open, peep sights. Good shooting!

Nice shooting!

I had a Williams sight on a Marlin '94 .357 carbine. It made it an awfully accurate short range shooter.

Looks like some good shooting to me. I too am itching for a range trip, it's been a while and my reloads are piling up...
