I was able to break away from work for a day and come back "home," to rural Georgia. My grandfather brought out two of his newer rifles: A Remington M1903/A3 and a Davide Pedersoli 1874 Sharps Quigley sporting rifle in 45-70. I put 25 rounds of military surplus link ammo through the '03, trying to get it sighted in, but my shoulder gave out before I got it where I'd like it. The Sharps shot great once I figured out how to use it. I pulled the first shot, using the regular trigger with a 300gr Winchester Super X soft point. The second two shots were with Hornady 325gr Leverloution, using the set trigger. They hit a little closer to home. The big Sharps was much easier on the shooter than the '03. The target was between 50-60 yards, and I was shooting off a trailer. The fender of the trailer was a little too tall, making me bend my back more than I'd like, but that's just an excuse.
