Mosin 91/30 first 15 rds @ 50 yards

Stripped and cleaned the Mosin this morning. I got it from AIM. I made it to Los Altos Rod and Gun Club at 3 PM. They closed at 4 but I got in two live fire sessions. I set up on the 50 yard range expecting to be high and I was consistently. Next week I will hit the 100 yard range.

This rifle is fun to shoot! The action worked well. The shooter needs some work on technique. :)

Good job TS!! :D It sure is a fun shooter! What ammo did you use?

Here is something to try for "technique". If you are a right-handed shooter, when shooting from a rest, use your left hand to work the bolt. I find I can cycle more rapidly while staying on target. Also, don't be afraid to be rough with the bolt. The Mosin likes to be slapped around.

+1 That works very well, just be careful of how far up on the grip your right hand is, I've dragged the bolt across my knuckle several times doing that...but, like they say, if ya ain't bleeding, ya ain't really tryin'!! :D

Good point Vincent. I am looking at two dings on my right wrist from last weeks shooting. You teach your wrist to "duck" or you pay.:)

Yep a fun shooter for sure Vincent! I used Soviet surplus from Surplus Ammo. I got two spam cans worth to start. I made sure I cleaned the corrosive residue when I got home from the range. Maybe I am crazy but I enjoy cleaning this rifle! :)

We have a couple, one with the washer shim trigger mod. They both shoot well, but the slicker trigger has allowed one hole groups at 50 yds. I think we will be ordering a couple of Timney triggers soon.

Enjoy yours!

I feel lucky. My FFL was holding a 1934 hex Tula for me, but it got sold

to a mutual acquaintance on the understanding I'd get an equivalent

replacement. First "91/30" out of the next shipment turned out to be

a 1925 Izzy Dragoon. Woo-Hoo! I'm looking forward to the range

tomorrow...
