making a backstop?
Alright shooters I need some advise again. Im wanting to build a backstop at my house because i dont have any hillside to shoot into. What ive been thinking about doing is just building a wood backstop. The idea in my head at the moment is 2 4x4's upright and either stack up 4x4s in between or put 2x on the front and back of the upright 4x4s. Has anyone ever done this or seen it done this way? Im only shooting 9mm and .22s.

I liked the sand-filled tires someone posted a week ago.

Wood alone makes a poor backstop because in a very short time you are going to shoot through it!
A double row of tires staggered and filled with sand or dirt will last much longer.

Big pile of dirt. How much construction is going on in your area. Many of the large McMansion housing tracts in my area will have a surplus of dirt and or topsoil. They many times will haul it to your site and dump it where you want it within reason. Never hurts to ask. Also check into pool installers. When you dig a hole in the ground and fill it with concrete and water you have to get rid of the dirt.

Nothing beats a big ares pile o dirt.

Gravel works pretty well, and can be pushed back into place if the pile spreads out. Dirt dissolves into mud and washes away.
