Default Home made gun rest bags.

I went the range a few weeks back and saw a guy that had some cool blue jean gun rest bags. He said they were filled with sand.

I thought it was cool and decided to try my hand at it. So i took some old blue jeans and cut off a 13" section of leg and sewed it up by hand on both ends, leaving a 2" opening to fill it. It ended up being about 12" x 10" x 4". I also made up a small one 11" x 5".

I filled my bags with rice I bought at Walmart in a big bulk bag.

They are nice and heavy (not as heavy as the sand ones) and are just pliable enough to form a grove to rest the gun in and have improved my shooting exponentially.

Didn't cost much money, only a little time. And I made some supper with the the leftovers.

Great idea. The only thing I can think of is....how is the Naples humidity going to affect them? Might you have sushi rice after a while?

So far so good. I suppose if I kept them outside, it might be an issue. We'll see. I figured it would be a good experiment anyway.

I lived on Marco Island for years, met my wife there, and our son was born at Naples Community Hospital. Never felt weather so hot and humid as Marco Island in the summer.

You should hop over to the Introductions thread and introduce yourself to the rest of the forum!

Cool, thanks. Will do.

It's pretty chilly here right now, with all the global warming and junk.

But it can get muggy.

I use old canvas shot bags and sand. You have to watch what sand you buy I got the wrong type and they are super dusty.

Here are my next shooting bags. MidwayUSA stole the design from them for their new bags. The maker of these is a member of another message board I belong to and he is a very nice guy.

Watch out with using rice or corn cobb if they get wet your going to have nothing more then a blue jean brick. I know it happened to me. I threw mine in the back of the car and the corn cob got wet because it was sitting on top of my camel back mouth piece. That thing swole up like a MMA fighters face after a 5 round bash fest.

Now that's funny. I expect my dog to pee on it or something and I will have rice pilaf all over my closet.

The bright side is that at least your household reduced its toilet paper costs for weeks afterwards, Tango.

I did the thing with the jeans and sand. Sewed up one end and then filled with sand. I closed the top of them with zip ties. They work great, but a couple of the larger ones are pretty heavy. I used play sand instead of a silica sand to keep dust down.

Tango, I just saw zombieland. That movie is a classic. I bought it, so I can go back and pick up on the great lines. Loved the rules.
