Heading to the range tomorrow (10/11/09)
I'm heading to the range tomorrow with several of my firearms and will post a report in the near future. I haven't made it to the range since July and I'm itching for some trigger time.

Excellent, we'll standby.

DANG!! Wish I could go with you, my friend! Looking forward to the range report. I'll be taking my 30-06 to the range in the next couple of weeks.

I went to the range yesterday (October 11, 2009) at the Jones-Keeney WMA near Dawson Springs, KY. I didn't know this prior to heading up there but there are no target stands so I had to fashion one out of a couple of branches from a near by downed tree. There are also no chairs so I'll have to take a couple the next time I go. The weather was perfect with temps in the low to mid 60s and just a slight breeze. The range was pretty soggy from recent rains but there is a covered shooting area with clearly marked lanes and tables. I ended up shooting my XD45 Compact, Kimber Pro Carry II, M4 with scope mounted on it, Mauser in 6.5X55, and .30-30 Winchester lever-action. The Mauser still has a glass-smooth trigger on it despite being 103 years old! It is one of my favorite guns to shoot. The .30-30 is fun to shoot at closer distances (100 yards or less) due to only having iron sights. The XD and Kimber both shoot like a dream and I'm a little more accurate with the XD than I am the 1911. I hoped to get the M4 sighted in for 200 yards but didn't have a bench rest so that proved impractical so I zeroed it for 25 yards. Due lowering the point of aim on the scope, it is zeroed to about 225 to 250 yards. I am looking forward to getting back out there in the near future to zero it for 200 yards. A bench rest and spotting scope are now on my wish-list of things to get to take to the range. All in all it was a great 2 and a half hours of shooting. I think next time I will get up early on a Saturday and get at least half of a day in at the range. Next time I know to take some target stands and Shoot-N-C targets. Due to the range rules, I didn't get to shoot my shotgun on account the rifle range was already in use and only one range can be used at a time.

What!!! No Pictures??? Damn kuster, some of us can barely read!
Sounds like you had a great time. I can remember driving two hours to get into BLM land where I shot across the hood of my truck. Best range is the one you're at!!

Sorry guys, I forgot to take the camera along. I'll have pics of the next time I go.

Believe me, I wish I could have gone. My range time in the last 3-4 months as been almost non existant. Been spending some time with my bow pretty regularly though. Whats the drive up there? 8 hours? Maybe I could talk Mrs. Spittinfire to a weekend out. The wives can go shopping or whatever and we'll hit the range.
I should have warned you, these guys are seriously addicted to gun/range porn. They want pics.
