I have a Boyds prairie hunter stock. Pillar bedded for the Remington 700 long action. I have actually decided to sell it. Asking $75. Sling was a neoprene el cheapo from Walmart. Cheap, comfortable, did the job. Recoil with my 30-06 was never noticeable in the woods. But off the bench was another story. 5 rounds was enough to make you start flinching and have pain. A slip on recoil pad from Walmart cost $20. I figured I'd give it a try before having a smith install a brake for bench use. That cheap pad was night and day difference! I could shoot and tune for an entire afternoon with that thing and have no pain at all! Buy one for your m1. Seriously, if you Dont like it, slip it back off and you're out a whopping $20.

Thanks.

The sling is just a basic leather sling. It was made by an old friend.

30-06 definitely has some power behind it. Already fixed the problem though. I put a grind to fit Pachmayr recoil pad on it, and now it is really comfortable to shoot.
