Default Full Auto MP5 in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq

Back in '05 I was on my second tour to Iraq and spent three months in NE Iraq overseeing training of Kurdish Corrections Officers for one of our detainee facilities. While there I was able to shoot a fellow soldier's MP5 sub-machine gun (and yes, this time I have pics but don't know how to upload them to this site yet).

The morning opened with great anticipation as I was the Range Safety Officer for the Kurds pistol qualification. I like to consider myself a patient man but the the excitement I had was like that of a kid with a piggybank full of Christmas money waiting for the toy store to open! At long last the qualifications were complete and ammo was still in good supply. In keeping up foreign relations, I let the couple of Kurdish military officers there shoot it first. Of course, this only fueled my desire to get some trigger time in. Finally it was my turn to shoot and I made sure that someone was taking my picture to preserve that wonderful moment for my future posterity. Let me just say that is one fun little weapon to put lead down range with! The weapon fired like a dream and was very easy to hold on target during semi-auto and full-auto firing. Recoil is pretty much nil and the ergonomics of the weapon make it comfortable to shoulder fire. Alas, after about 50 rounds, my time shooting the H&K MP5 was up but I was smiling from ear to ear.

If money grew on trees, this would be the next weapon in my arsenal. If there are any filthy rich people out there who would like to donate an MP5 to me you would not get any objections from my end, just send me a PM and we'll get down to business.

Now if I could just figure out how to post the pictures once I get back home...

Super cool. Most jealous. I have held most of the H&K stuff at SHOT, but I have only shot a couple of their long guns.

I have always wanted to shoot an MP-5. It's definitely on my bucket list.

That sounds like one big happy family you got there. I'm wondering though, just how many branches are on that tree?

Branches? We don't need no stinking branches!
