First trip with new gun.

Finished my AR build, and took her out today for her range trip. Being the brilliant man I am, I forgot my stand, bags, and my bipod, so I had to sight it in freehand.

I fed her 55 grain .223 in both brass and steel case, without a hicccup. 260 rounds later, I went home with a rifle that has become my favorite.

This was part of the outcome.

at what distance?

50 Yards to start. Next trip I plan on going to 100. The RDS didn't work, as it wouldn't adjust at all. Manufacturer is sending me a replacement now.

Awesome, I'm really glad you are happy with your AR build since you spent so much time and hard work on it. Feels good to know you built something that runs well doesn't it? That's how I was feeling after my first AR build anyway!

Congrats again.

Man, that's free hand? That is the best way I can shoot as that is the most stable way I have to shoot. Do you think my accuracy would suffer compared to others because of this. I have never been able to us bags, bipods, tripods, or any of that other fancy stuff.

Yes it definitely does. I told my son (he has it on tape) 'This is either going to be great fun or it's going to blow up in my face'. Fortunately, it didn't blow up.

I like shooting without a brace. I prefer zeroing in with one, so that I know that my rifle is dead on, and if there's a miss by a bit, it's my fault.
