Default do you guys have this problem at your outdoor ranges?

brass scavengers. i don't mind at all if someone wants to go sifting through the gravel & spent casings behind the firing line for spent brass but when they step out past the firing line to scrounge & interrupt what myself & other people came to do it starts to annoy me.

earlier today there was a guy that just hovered around me & the other couple shooters at the outdoor pistol range collecting our empties. when we would call the range safe & go check/reset our targets he would go out onto the range & look for brass & it everytime he wondered around & searched the ground long after we were back at the line waiting to go. when we mentioned to him we were waiting to shoot he said "go ahead, don't worry about me" & stayed well out in front of the line. well no way in hell are we gonna load up & open fire when there's a person still 5 or 7 yards downrange.

sorry for the rant but what really bothered me is that he just didn't care that we were there to shoot & he was interrupting that, time & time again, no matter what we said or how many times we said it. some people

A phone call to the board would get him barred at our range. I save my brass and would be "upset" if a scrounger was stealing it. I will pick up abandoned brass if no one is there but will only pick up my own brass if there are other shooters.

Slap him around a little bit. If he didn't ask before hand that's called stealing.

Correct. Like jtj i police brass when no one is around but i also reload pretty much anything so it all works out. I also keep a 5 gallon bucket in my truck for that purpose when i go to an actual range. I just tell other people that if you dont want ypur brass throw them into the bucket(s) in my truck bed. The range i go to makes you police your brass. They provide buckets and trash cans for it all but all they do with it once its full is poor em into trash bags and throw em into a dumpster: at very least they should seel it to a scrap yard and put that $ back into the system. Its a MDC range by the way. Its a staffed range that you pay $2 an hour. Or you xan pay $10 and shoot for 4 hours at any of the ranges. Be it pistol, rifle, shotgun, or skeet

Im pissed off now and I wasnt even there. I would have reported him, that is something the owner/board would want to know because there would be lawsuits everywhere if something would have happened. What a jerk.

The range I'm a member of would have physically escourted him off the property for being the only one downrange picking up brass and holding up the fireing line. They tolerate zero stupid and they are not in business to supply spent brass.

That being said the state of California here considers the residue in the spent brass Hazmat and requires the range operaters where I shoot to get the brass picked up off the ground farily quickly. So if you don't pick up your casings in short order they get the spent brass and place it in barrels. We do have scrounges going through these barrels now but they are at least not downrange.

I agree I consider it stealing, I don't reload yet but I'm going to I have tons of empty cases in the closet waiting I always save my brass. I don't go to a public outdoor range I have private property I shoot on but if I had some guy sitting there on the fire area just being a d*ck I would be half tempted to kick his arse.

Then again this is the reason that I don't use public ranges,

he did ask me after i shot my first magazine if he could have the brass, if i would've known how he was going to act i would've told him no & to beat it. since this is a public range with no range officers or anything like that, not much can be done to keep him from doing it except maybe a good arse kicking.

but seein as how i'm 30 & he was 60ish, i'm not gonna go down that road. i'll let someone closer to his own age whoop his butt
