Colt 1911a1 .22 range report

]I just got this gun on Monday and took it out for its maiden voyage today. Had a few minutes to spare so my son and I went out to my property to tryout the new gun. This is the first handgun that I have ever owned and I have not fired a handgun in well over 20 years. The last time I was getting my rifle/shotgun merit badge and the instructor brought along a .22 pistol.

I did some research on what I was looking for before buying one. I looked at many different guns but when I found this one at a LGS, I knew it was the one. I don't have experience with handguns but figured that starting with a 1911 with the same controls as a centerfire handgun would be the way to go.
This model is actually made by Walther and imported into the US by Umarex.

It was kind of misting and the wind was blowing. My target stand has ropes the we clip targets to. The wind was really making the target billow back and forth. I just couldn't wait for a better day to shoot my new gun though.

I decided on 7 yards as being reasonable for a first outing. I brought along 100 CCI Mini-Mag Standard Velocity rounds. The gun ran flawlessly. No FTF or FTE. Went bang everytime I pulled the trigger. The magazine load is smooth and the gun is very easy to operate. Remember I have virtually no experience with a handgun so please don't laugh too hard at my first target.

Now for the pics:

The target is an 8" and with the exception of the one shot all stayed inside the 8". I fired 4 full mags at this target, so 48 shots. I don't think this is representative of what the gun will do but the wind was blowing pretty good and I know some of the shots are off because of wind. It was blowing strong enough to make me sway a little bit. I have no doubt things will tighten up with better weather and more experience.

For right now I am very happy with the gun and satisfied that it ran flawlessly on its first time out. I picked it up for well under $400.

Went out today and put 150 rounds of Blazer through the gun without a hiccup. I'm really loving this gun. I can definately see a larger caliber handgun in my very near future.
