Default CMP Mossberg M44US

Been doing a lot of shooting with the CMP 44US I got last fall. Very accurate with the peep sites, but I've been wanting to see what it could do scoped. I had it drilled/tapped and mounted a Leupold 24BR scope I had laying around in Leupold rings/bases

heres another pic with the 35 whelen my cousin just got

I had my smith check the chamber and crown while he had it and he said they were like new. I gave the bore a good cleaning and headed to the bench. Fired a few shots to zero and foul the bore then shot this 10 shot group at 25yd in gusting winds with Wolf MT. Little blurry from cell phone but thats a dime

Not too bad for a 65 year old piece of army surplus

Gatekeeper- aren't those GREAT little 22s? Spent the afternoon yesterday at the range with mine. Made in 1943- got the scope mount from Vic Havlin (havlinsales.com for ANYTHING Mossberg)

My 44US shoots better than I can- likes Lapua Master and Nobel R-50 ammo. Not as good as the match ammo (I cannot FIND Wolf 22 match here in VA) but a surprisingly accurate round- you might try Dick's Sporting Goods- they carry Federal Champion Target STANDARD VELOCITY. Will do 3/8th goups at 50 meters, and is about $22 a brick (the R-50 is about $22 a BOX)

A note of caution- Mossberg 22s are addictive. Ask me how I know that!

Great gun, equally great shooting.

It's encouraging (for me) that something 65, years old, if well kept, is functional to a 10 shot dime grouping!

Ooops, I guess I overlooked the"Well Kept" thingie.

Great post Gatekeeper!

Mines also a '43. So is my cousins. Havlins is the first and only stop for Mossy parts. Bought magazines, slings safe/fire indicators, extractors. Excellent service.
I stocked up on Wolf MT some time back, but you can usually find at

Champion Shooters Supply Web Site

The Armory: 22 Ammunition Ammo, Remington, Winchester, Corbon, S&B, PMC, Aguila, Wolf,

Thanks for the tip on the federal champion target ( same as gold medal target?) 3/8 at 50 meters is outstanding accuracy for that price. Have to try it out.
FYI my m44US loves CCI subsonic HPs for hunting. Great small game round. Very quiet, hits very hard & super accurate. Huge hollow point that actually has great expansion @subsonic/standard velocity Shoot a squirrel and it sounds like you hit a walnut with a wiffle ball bat. Pretty neat!

Thanx- will check that out. My 44US was #912 made in 1943.

The Federal Champion Target ammo is in a teal colored box, is very much like the Gold Medal Target.

Recently did a "Mossberg Day" at the range-
44US, 151M, 51M, 152, 152K, 142, and a 144. The 20 something shooters at the range got a big kick out of them, everyone wanted to try one.
