DefaultBallistics Gel

I almost forgot to post these pictures. There not that great, I will take better ones next time.

Made the gel by using 12oz gelatin and 3/4 gallon water. Some advice I will offer to anyone wanting to try this. Mix the gelatin in slowly, very slowly, I had some clumps of unmixed gelatin because I did it to quickly. Hopefully I can get rid of those when I melt it down and clean it up. This stuff is reusable especially if you shoot clean through it since there is little residue left behind. A .40 Hollow point and .45 Hollow point both will shoot through more than 13" of gel so make it a nice long block. The blocks in the picture are about 13" long 3" wide and 3" tall. The blocks will fly right off the table when you shoot them so having a way to hold them down would be best. Make sure you realize your not just hitting the front, you have to line them up so the front and back are straight to you and the angle is level to how your shooting.
Lastly, it's harder to hit gel than it is to hit a target. I'll probably put a target on the gel next time as well as making the gel at least 4"x4"x18".

Right down the side, that sucked.

Same block shot again, you can see the spiraling nicely.

I would love to play with some of that stuff. Where did you round it up?

There is a beer and wine making supply store in my town. Wine makers use gelatin as a clearing agent so I found it in bulk there. 4oz for $3. It's not as clear as the real ballistics stuff or so I have read but that stuff you have to buy in large quantities as far as I know.

There are recipes for DIY gel posted on the web. I believe Shihan cooked up a batch not long ago.

Looks good, what did you use as a mold? My first batch was round, worked good. I needed to allow it to cure a little longer but it did do the trick. Good Job, I am sure next time will work even better, learn a little from this and next will be even gooder.

Here is what I did.
