So I wrote this little ditty:

Ozark Folk Center Dry Creek Lodge

She was sitting alone in the
very last pew
of the little Baptist Church
in Mountain View.
I sat down beside her;
(She was saving me a place,)
and we first held hands
singing “Amazing Grace.”
When church was over, I
met her outside
and ask her if she would like to
take a ride
in my brand-new long-bed
diesel Dodge
over to the Folk Center
Dry Creek Lodge.
The very next morning
I knew for sure
her love would last and
her heart was pure.
We wed in April and
in the month on May
the doctor said
“you’re a daddy, Jose!”

Now, fifty years later
my hair is gray
but I still remember
the very first day
that I sat her down in
my diesel Dodge
and took her to the Folk Center
Dry Creek Lodge.

Some days things don't click. I go bowling with the church league and some nights are just "off" even though I understand what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do.

I don't get the range time like I used to, and lately I've been shooting a lot of handguns which are not my best. Sometimes I have to get real analytical about what I'm doing wrong. I refer to it as knowing not translating into doing. I know my handgunning skills could be better and I'm always looking to improve, so when I see groups start to spread more than usual or shots landing on paper but outside the target I start to think about what I'm doing wrong. Grip, stance, how I'm squeezing the trigger. Usually when I calm down and think it through I get better.

Frustration kills my accuracy everytime. It doesn't have to be me off target. Having a lot of issues (FTF, FTE, etc.), an obnoxious neighbor at the range, or failing to really concentrate on what I'm doing can all lead to frustration. Again, calming down, thinking it through, suddenly I get better. That sounds easier than it is because I know how I SHOULD be performing but when I'm not there it's easy to tense up and start focusing on how badly I'm doing instead of focusing on fixing it.

Back to basics....how do you guys and gals combat rust and lack of practice to ensure you don't have a day like mine? I started shooting at 20 yards and that probably was my first mistake but I just couldn't get settled down for some odd reason....grip, focus on front sight, squeeze and pow...miss
It's the weather in Arkansas! My buddy and I were in my backyard about a week ago and we just reeked. Him even worse than me if that's possible. Stress, things on your mind, too much coffee. As posted earlier more rounds don't help, some days are just for mowing the grass.

Well the weather here just broke...cool and dry. Cool evenings...enough for a campfire and roasting hot dogs and marshmellows with the kids.

New week, new weather, new attitude... I bet I shoot better this weekend!
