I went back to the range today to test some more handloads. I took my 25/06 and 308 Savage's back out there.
The 25/06 is still a big disappointment, but it seems to be doing better, but being a heavy barreled tactical rifle it should shoot the wings off flies at 100 yards. It doesn't,so a new custom barrel may be on the way soon, even though this one only has around 500 rounds through it.
Now don't get me wrong the rifle shoots good, just not the way I expect a rifle built like this to shoot. Most off the rack thin barreled 25/06's will shoot the groups I'm getting with it.
The 308 is a little picky about bullets and powders, but with the right combo, this thing blows my mind.I have never shot 1/4" 3 shot groups with any 30 caliber rifle before, and I still have to look close at the target to believe it.
So far the 25/06 just likes to shoot Sierra 100gr bullets,115,117,120 bullets are just so-so.I'm starting to find the right combo for some Nosler bullets but they still need some work. The worst shooting bullets are Barnes 100gr Triple Shocks.
I don't adjust my scope when I test,so you will see groups in different places on target from different powder charges/bullets.
Here's some pics of 25/06 targets,Best -Worst.
