Ancient Components Test
2 Attachment(s)
Having found a bunch of boxes of old, old bullets in my garage, I loaded up some hunting ammo and went to my range for some testing. The bullets were given to me many years ago from a friend whose uncle died and was heavy into reloading. At the time my friend wasn not into reloading so he gave me 1000 rds. of various boxes of Herter's Bullets, CCI primers, and ancient brass... I wanted to see how accurate these bullets would be for hunting with my DPMS LR308, so I loaded 20 rds. of 168gr Soft Point Herters bullets( the pic shows a box of 125 HP) over 45.5 gr. of Varget using Winchester Super Speed Silver Tip brass and old CCI Large rifle primers. All components except the powder were at least 40 years old. Range was 100 yds. with a scoped DPMS Panther LR308 AR. I was shaking like a leaf today for some reason and couldn't make the groups I would have liked, but the technology of days gone by was certainly sufficient for accurate hits on game.
