Default 25/06 Savage FLCP

Well a friend and I went to the range today to try out the Savage Tactical I have been putting together. Ryan also brought his 308 and 220 Swift.

I picked up a box of Remington 100gr Corlok ammo to sight in the scope and not waste my handloads.I also had some Sierra 100gr BTSP,Combined Technology 115gr Silvertips, and Nosler 100gr Ballistic Tips.

We set up on the 50yrd range to sight in the scope and proceded to "GetRDone".

It only took a couple shots to dial the scope in at 50yrds,then we moved to the 100yrd range. The Corlok ammo actually shot pretty decent, but I knew the handloads would be better,or atleast the 115gr Silvertips were.

Well, the CT 115gr Silvertips shot great,i need to tweak the powder charge a little but it is pretty close.

The Sierra 100gr BTSP shot OK,but I'm going to try a couple different powders and get them where they need to be.

The big disapointment was the Nosler 100gr Ballistic tips. These things were going all over the place.I will be working on this issue.I know these will shoot very well,I just have to find a powder they like. They don't like Varget,H4831,or H4350. I'll try some Reloader 19 & 22 and see what they'll do.

We had a fun day at the range, but I always forget the camera,so no range pics.

It looks like you're going to have fun working up loads. I see some serious promise already. Good shooting!

It was decent for the first time out,and the barrel got pretty fouled fast and probably had a little to do with the Nosler's shooting so bad,but it did the same thing when I shot 15-20 of them out of it with the factory tupperware on it before my stock arrived and I just thought it was the factory stock causing the bad shots from flexing.

I was impressed by the results of the Silvertips though.

Lon,Let me get the 308 finished and we can shoot both one weekend.

Since the barrel is fouling so quickly I'd bet that a good hand lapping of it would go a long way toward solving the fouling problem. Factory barrels like that are almost never hand lapped. Just food for thought.

Bear,We think alike.I did a good lapping on the barrel after I cleaned it at home. I also cleaned the barrel several times at the range.
Savage barrels are always a little rough from the factory, but once you get them broke in,they are some shooters.
