Default 200YD Zero With Marlin 336A

Hello to all! I've been trying to get this done for a few months now. Finally got good results this past weekend. The rifle is a 1949 with a 24" Ballard-rifled barrel in .35 Remington. I finally settled on a handload of 44.0GRS Hodgdon LVR powder; CCI BR-2 primers; & the Hornady 200GR FTX projectile with polymer tip for safety in tube magazines. It's grouping into 1-1/2" off the bench now where the best I ever got with a different load was 4". It seems this rifle REALLY likes this bullet, possibly because of its longer bearing surface, as opposed to the 180GR Speer Hot Core Flat Point, which, of course has a shorter one. For anyone hunting with the .35, I'd recommend this projectile/powder combo. The powder gives good velocity WITH lower pressures than other powders. I haven't killed any deer with it yet, but I understand it has excellent expansion. BTW, the MV of this combo in my rifle is 2200FPS. jd45

Thanks, I've been using the 180's with H-4895 with zero set at 75 yards. Will try the new powder and bullet combo.

Thanks again
Jim

Nice rifle Jim. BTW, I'm in Arlington Heights. I go up to the Bristol, WI ranges west of Kenosha to get the distance I need. I'm now gonna try Hodgdon's H335 with the 180 Speers, 42.0GRS max & see how it works. I was using AA2460 before. I was gonna go up today but the weather is too crappy. I usually go on Sundays if you wanna meet sometime up there. Non-member range fee is $30, member is $5. Joining is $25 a year for seniors, (minimum 62, I think just in case it applies)
