Default will these rings work?

trying to figure out if i need low, medium or high rings for my rig...

i understand that lower is better, so im looking for the lowest possible fit..

im obsessed with these heavy duty badger ordnance ones (to match my badger ordnance scope base rail) but was wondering if they will work..

the scope is a VX R 4-12X50mm
http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/vx-r-riflescopes/vx-r-4-12x50mm-includes-metric/

and these are the rings..
http://www.badgerordnance.com/products/scope-ring-max-50-alloy-30mm-dia-2/

the rings say for 30mm tubes but say "50 MAX"...does that mean the rings are only high enough for a maximum of a 50mm objective? and if the scope is a 50mm objective, that isnt counting the body of the scope. so will these still work?

sorry, this is a tedious question..

go to their website and see if they list the specs on their rings. also check out Brownell's and MidwayUSA. Brownell's lists the specs in the listings on the products they carry. MidwayUSA has a applicatiion chart listing many different scope rings with their specs based on which to use with a particular scope size.

and yes, the closer to the bore axis the better. having the scope down lower helps make a more consistent cheek weld which means your shots are going to be more consistent and helps in accuracy.

i too have a hard time with rings and sometimes will end up ordering another set or different brand to get the proper clearance with a particular scope.

I have heard that the low work for up to a 40mm, and that is what my scope is, and they barely clear the barrel. But that's all they need to do. So you may need to get the high ones.
