I run straight irons on my AR no optic, although I have used all kinds of glass in my time.

I prefer irons to optics for range use but in a real world combat scenario I would greatly prefer an optic such as eotech, aimpoint or even a vortex red dot, for a distance shooter (over 200yds) I'd want a decent scope.

but I'm not the type to put a $2000 scope in a $700 rifle, I would only spend up to 1/3 the value of my firearm on an optic.

That's the reason why I wont buy an eotech or aimpoint for my AR that's worth about $1000-$1100 tops so vortex and lucid will be the way I go when its time.

And despite what many on this site will tell you, those choices will meet your needs every time. Most of us have better things to do with our money than waste it on over-priced optics gimickry

Very true that's my point of view on it no need in wasteing money on an optic if u don't need all the bells and whistles it offers just a simple red dot will suffice for me on an AR.

Depends on what I'm shooting. For me, shooting an AR with optics is more fun than without, but I'm still rocking irons on my GSR. Everybody is different, not everybody has the most fun with irons. That's why there are so many different guns and optics out there.
