Default Where do you mount your red dot?

Show me where you mount your red dot (EO tech, aimpoint, etc.)

I was taught the further forward the better but I see everyone runnin there's a lot closer to the rear site...

Am I wrong?

A heavier red dot is best moved to the rear, so that the rifle balance is preserved. A smaller one, doesn't matter.

My eotech I had mounted as far forward as it would go on my carbine. Then with my aimpoint, its about 2/3rds forward on the rail:

Mine on my shotgun is at front of rail on the receiver.

I think its a balance between rifle balance and visual performance.
