Pics are a bit fuzzy when I blow them up, and can't read the markings on it. Does that have a mirror set in it at a 45 degree angle?

If so, in the M14 days, we had a "coach's scope". Snapped over the rear sight of an M14. You looked THROUGH a partially silvered mirror. Your coach, lying beside you looked into the angled mirror, allowing him to check your sight picture and sight alignment. Coach had the same view of sights as shooter.

I think C3 nailed it. I can't read the writing on it either, but that does look like a mirrored surface in the third picture.

The look reminds me of something like the one that my old man had put on my first .22 bolt rifle to help me learn to shoot.

Good memories there.

I think those were made for all the Military guns... Ive seen them for '03's and M1's.. Cant tell you what that one is for though....

not terribly valuable. just a cool device. there were a LOT made and almost as many made got into civvy hands. the military doesnt really use them anymore.

what little iron shooting thats taught is done with cue cards at best. its all optics and rds stuff. sad state of affairs when marksmanship isnt being taught. reminds of the choices the airforce made taking the guns off jets since they wouldnt be needed anymore....
