Over the years, I've come to believe that a 1.5-6X42 is perfect for almost all situations.

Obviously military snipers and SWAT entry teams have different needs, but I've never come across anything that a 1.5-6X42 won't handle. Even prairie dogs at 300-400 yards.

It was surprising for me when I found my group sizes didnt change much with more magnification. The 2-7x32's are good for .22's and squirrels, as well as my straight-wall cartridge rifles (44mag and 444 marlin) for deer.

I saw the Burris Signature Zee rings have some kind of self aligning insert... being the cheap guy, I put a strip of black electrical tape on the inside of my rings. No scratches and it seems to grip and clamped up well. So far I've done this exactly once, and only on a .22 rifle. Anyone else ever tried this?
