Thoughts about Aimpoint with 2x magnifier?
I have decided to add an Aimpoint Comp C3 (not M3...I have no need for NV) to my AR flattop. I'd have to get a LaRue LT-150 QD mount. That totals about $600.

On a local classifieds I am seeing this exact setup for $450. Except, it is a slightly older model, CompC3 with 2x integral magnifier and 1 MOA dot.

I know it is a pretty good deal, but I don't know whether I want the 2x magnifier. What do you think about a red dot with a magnifier? It is only 2x.

This would be for CQB home defense. However, I would probably not put it on unless I was going to take it outside and defend my close property outside. Inside the house and I'd probably just use iron sights anyway because of the holdover that close. (Not to mention my AR isn't the best choice for 10-30 foot distance home defense anyway).

If ur looking at CQ battle rifle don't waste ur money on a magnifier, I have a 2 x and i dont like it any closer than 50 yards

This has an internal magnifier. I agree that I probably wouldn't buy an external magnifier (even on a swing-away mount). It's just such a good deal. Basically a free mount. But I don't want to make a mistake, either.

What don't you like about the 2x? Does it mess with your brain? Is it harder to find your target?

Now it is $400! I need help. My money is itching to be set free...

Just for the record. This thread was short-lived and not many thoughts. Though I did hear from a couple of wonderful FTF'ers behind the scenes...

I just decided that a magnifier on my red dot scope atop my AR would not be the best choice.

I took my Nikon 2-8x AR scope around the backyard (very scientific, huh?) on the 2x setting. Even on that lowest magnification I was very disoriented with both eyes open, which is partially the point for a heads-up red dot "scope". Not for me...

Thanks for reading.
