I appreciate the information, pretty much came out about what I was thinking - maybe more important on the older scopes / not so much with newer equipment. I do understand the Marine sniper - his life was on the line, I would give myself any possible advantage also. Thanks All !

OK, for the third time, what do you want me to prove? You keep saying that I refuse to "prove it" but I don't know what you want "proved".

I did not even say anything that requires "proving", so I'm not sure why you keep going back to that. What is there to prove?

The question was basically "Does anyone tap their scope, and if so, why?"

My answer was basically, "Yes, I tap mine because a world class shooter suggested that I do so and that he does it." Nothing more. Nothing at all above and beyond that.

Then you come charging in with the attitude that anyone who can afford nice stuff, and does something different than you, is an A-Hole.

I never said that tapping the scope turrets was necessary.

I never said that anyone else should tap their turrets.

All I said was that I tap mine with a piece of empty brass. Plain and simple.

You are the one who called me out, and have continued to assert that I'm either some kind of liar, or have no idea what I'm talking about.

Both assertions are false.

And for what it is worth, Night Force has a scope that they take to all the trade shows. It is one of theirs that took a 7.62 round through the erector tube in Iraq. A clean hole all the way through the scope. That scope still tracks perfectly and aside from the fact that it is no longer sealed it works perfectly.

So I don't think that tapping a good scope with a one ounce piece of empty brass is going to cause any harm. I don't baby any of my gear, in any way. And I expect it to perform for longer than my lifetime.

I have a cheap chinese camouflage $50 scope that will not move on the paper after adjusting it. Do you think beating(NOT TAPPING) on it with a hammer might loosen it up????

OK so you can understand better.

Please prove that tapping on scope turrets is going to help your shooting.

Once again I don't have an attitude. Like I said I could care less what you or anyone else has on their rifle. I just don't like people who always bring it up that they have better stuff than everyone else. WHO CARES.

M14 again You ARE NOT the one doing that.

I just asked to prove the point that it helps thats all.

Aha. I cannot prove that tapping the turrets is necessary or not, nor did I ever indicate that it was necessary, or that it was anything that could be proved.

I was told that tapping the turrets can settle the adjustment. This action is most beneficial in both in very cold weather when internals may be affected by any presence of lube or contraction of metal, or in especially hot weather when expansion of same metal can affect function.

I do not have a strong opinion of whether or not it is necessary, but any hypothetical advantage is one that I will use.

Mr. Murphy works in mysterious way.

Is this the same Tango who made these recommendations for a guy's 10/22?

The dude said MONEY WAS NO OBJECT. if it is not then why not go for the best scope out there.

I know I would.

I don't disagree with that, but a Schmidt Bender on a 10/22 is a little over the top!
