Default Sun shade

Does anyone know the purpose if a sun shade?

well it shades the sun!

seriously, it helps cut down on glare through the scope when the sun is ahead of you. suppose to also help with somewhat with mirage, but not absolutely sure about that.

Does nothing for mirage that ive ever noticed. Only way to reduce mirage is to reduce magnification, even then if conditions are right you can get mirage with zero magnification.

My preference when its cheap enough are tenebrex killflash covers

thanks JonM, i didn't think so, but wasn't really for sure. even at low magnification, i still can see some heat waves if it's really hot. i use mine for more to reduce overhead glare from the sun.
