I can consistently hit MOA at 250 yds using a Bushnell Banner 3-9 x 40 (under $100). I can't imagine ever spending $1000 for a scope. Opinions do vary.......

The cross wires in the 3X9 Banner cover up 2" at two hundred yards. The Banner is a low end scope which is not parallax free to infinity. There is no provision for an Adjustable objective. You are a very lucky rifleman.

Luck would mean I can't duplicate every time out there, Bro. Did it first on a 30-06 700 and it now sits on a .270 Winchester. Sighting in it did 3/8 " at 100 yds. Sand bags no sled. Does that sound like luck? If so I'll take luck and a few $$ in my pocket EVERY TIME.

Don't get me wrong I do not believe it is a great scope by any account. I hunt with a Nikon Buckmaster, which to many here would still be a POS. At the end of the day it's usually about the shooter and his knowledge of his own rig. The manufacturers LOVE making us think that more $$ = better shooting, every time.

I'm fairly new to rifles and I am looking for a good scope. However, Know nothing about them. So when you are making your recommendation, feel free to drop some knowledge on me about why one scope is better suited for me than another.

1. Price: $300 or less
2. Use: mostly deer hunting, but there may be some fun target shooting at some point
3. Rifle: Remington 700
4. Caliber: 30-06
5. Variable or fixed power: Not sure. Why is one better than the other? Which is best for a scope newb?
6. Any other requirements you have. None that I can think of, but like I said, I don't know what I need or should look for.

Thanks!

So I am looking to start hunting in the Pacific Northwest.

1. Price - 200 - 300
2. Use - Hunting and range
3. Rifle - Ruger American
4. Caliber - 308
5. Variable or fixed power - Variable
6. Any other requirements you have - I will be hunting black tail deer, mule deer and maybe elk. I was looking toward a 3-9 x 40. However I have read some articles that mention a 4.5-12 might be better for my area of the country.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

1. Price $1000-$1300
2. Use Target shooting 100-400 yards
3. Rifle Remington 700 xcr long range tactical
4. Caliber 308

What scope would work best ?

How'd I miss this thread??? OK, I have 3 guns that could use some optics:

Ruger Gunsite Scout 308. Bought the XS rail so I can either go scout set up or conventional. Mostly a target gun, but would be my main hunting gun for hog hunting trips planned with my neighbor. Budget about $600 or under. Thinking variable and illuminated.

Kimber 84m 243. Mostly range fun gun. Wanted something bolt action with a little more umph than my 223. Could hunt with it, but would be rare. Thinking variable scope under $500.

Ruger Mini 14 Tactical. Fun gun, and home defense. Would like to hit a pig at some distance too. So many ways to go with this one I'm totally confused. $600 and under budget. Possible 1x4 illuminated or even red dot. I've no clue.

I think I've read every internet link in existence about these guns and scopes, but have settled on nothing. Help me out guys!
