Simmons "Boresighter" scope ?

I recently purchased a Savage 22-250 with a Simmons Boresighter scope on it. The scope has ( of course) windage and elevation adjustment knobs but also has a knob on the left that when turned extends a pin type object into the reticle field of view... I cannot find information on how this is used....

noob needs help....:D

it sounds like you have an scope with BDC instead of a boresiter scope. The ONLY scopes with special sighting in procedure I'm familiar with are Shepards scopes.

Could it be that you shoot a group with an unsighted rifle, place the pointer on the group and then adjust your crosshairs to the point of the black pointer, and thus sight it in?

I don't think they make that model any more.
