Default shotgun scope on a rifle?

Ok here's the deal, we finally got state wide rifle for deer hunting, my area has always been melon lobber area. I have a Savage model 11 in 308 win. it has a Bushnell plain 3x9x40 scope on it and my 870 12ga has a Nikon Prostaff shotgun slug 2x7x32 with a BDC 4dot reticle. I went on Nikons web sight on their spot on ballistic match and put in the caliber make of bullet and grains and it showed me what the ballistics were on it for each of the 4 rings zeroed at 100. I liked the scope but don't need it on the shotgun anymore since the shotgun would only be used in thick cover and scope's are no good. It should take the shock cause the 12ga slug shoots harder than the 308 maybe wrong but that's why I would like to hear some input.

The shotgun scope should have parallax set at 50 yards. For a rifle it's best to have the parallax set at 100 yards. It really depends on how you like to hunt. If you like to watch fields/power lines you will want a traditional rifle scope. If you usually shoot deer real close in the woods the shotgun scope might be a blessing in disguise.

You are correct. The shotgun scope can serve you just fine, at least getting started. If you find the reticle too thick for your needs, or the parallax annoying, then you might consider a new one.

They work better than a rifle scope at short ranges under 100 yards.

Nikon's spot on should make the bdc useable for 308.

Thanks for your input! I will switch it out and try it. The farthest shot is 250ish across a marsh I sit by and had to watch the deer on the other side with the shotgun but hoping not with the 308. I will zero at a 100yrds and definitely see what it does out to 200yrds. If your thoughts were no way it won't work and I wouldn't have wasted my time but sounds like I could make it work for this year. I do really like the kids Hawke Panorama IR 3-9x50 EV on his TC Icon 300 Win Mag. But after looking through both I definitely see the difference in the reticle's.
