Default scope ring mounting height

i have a win. model 70 30-06 with a egw 1 piece base im looking at getting a scope with a 40mm objective somewhere in the 12-14 power range max, can i get away with a low ring height? i have a simmons 2.5-10x50mm on it now, just seems like i have to lift me eye up a lil to see threw the scope. i want to get a better check weld to feel more comfortable.

I have a few 40mm scopes and I use Leupold 1 piece mounts with Medium height rings and they are perfect for me.

Now you have to account for your stock your head and your scope. How tall is the base?

Lon went with a base and medium rings once and the scope was real high.

You are at a point where it is a guessing game. Just remember if you buy local it is easier to return them.

Tango is right, it can drive you nuts. I live in a remote location, so if I had five bucks for every time I ordered and sent back rings/bases, I could buy that Nightforce I want so bad.

If you live in a populated area, take the rifle and scope to a gun shop. They should help you find what you want. If they don't, go to another gun shop.

I don't think it's that simple. I sure wish it was, though.

Sounds like he wants to get as low as he can......lows might work also with a 40mm objective.

The problem is that the heights can vary with different manufacturers and different base/ring combinations.
