Nikon prostaffs are pretty good for the price.
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-ProStaff-Black-Riflescope-Nikoplex/dp/B004MY5L18/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1374796341&sr=8-2&keywords=nikon+prostaff

this one is 11 dollars more than your limit. if you fill out an online form at amazon.com for an amazon visa card, you can get immediate free money from 30 to 50 dollars off your purchase, making it well within your budget. I received 50 dollars when I did that for an Eotech scope on amazon, and with my good credit, they gave me 50 dollars towards any purchase. if you don't like credit cards, just cut it up and don't use it, and you still got the free money for filling out the form.

At optics planet they sell silver ones also, but 19 dollars over your limit

The nice thing about a budget scope is when you finally get into some good money and want a better scope, you now have a better one to put on your 22 rifle, etc

I'm a fan of Mueller scopes... I suggest you poke around their website. Here's a link that fits your price etc.....

Also, do you have some large box-store gun stores in your area? Go to their counter and check them out and look through them and see what you can like and live with.

You really nedd that lower magnification when hunting. If your planning on a 5-6x lower it does no good at 50 yards. I put a Sightron SII Big Sky on my .308HB to make it practical. I use to use the rifle at 700 yards w/ a 6-24x40mmAO scope. Not a good choice for hunting. The 3-12x42mmAO is much better. I'm I big guy so swinging the rifle on a moving target is not tough. The difference in the Quality of glass is amazing. The old scope was very good, but I am happier w/ this set up. It is a 620.00 scope. Glass quality is excellent.

Save a little more money and put a decent scope on your rifle. You won't regret buying a quality scope.

For the price,The Weaver Classic Extreme is a hell of a scope. It was Weaver's top of the line scope before they introduced the Super Slam series.
Natchez has them for a great price, and this one would serve you well on your rifle.

I just got a new MidwayUSA flyer in mail, and they're haveing some good sales on Scopes right now
Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x50 for $109(truplex reticle), or same power with(Mil-dot) for $125. These are $200+type scopes.
Midway also has many other Scopes and are good People to work with, if run into problems.

Keep in mind $150-300 the glass quality will be the same . I would take a look at a vortex that's right in your price range . Lifetime warranty, great customer service ,
