Default Scope Question

Do you think going from a 3-9x40 to a 4-12x40 will make enough difference at 300yds. plus to justify switching? I'm wondering about going a bit stronger on my Eddystone '06.

Honestly I do not.

I have subcribed to the "if I can see, I can hit it" shooting philosophy since I was a kid.

If I wasn't allowed to shoot at it, well then that wasn't my fault, I but I could see it and I was sure I could hit it.

Well I got into long range target style shooting, I realized that having the best possible optics for the task at hand really made a difference in where I could place a round.

Going from 3x9 to 4x12 is going to help, but I don't think it will be a night/day difference at longer ranges.

CAVEAT: Unless you are going from a paper towel tube to a Schmidt & Bender that is.

Try adding a Bayonet. My Mosin M44 shoots better with bayonet extended.

Do it, why not?

Unless your shooting Gnats, I don't think it would matter.

Okay, I wasn't sure. I think I'll go with a 4-14x40 to mount on my next rifle project just for grins.

I'll probably J-B Weld a KaBar to the barrel. Then I can just jam it into the ground when I camp rather than having to set it somewhere.

I would just because I can't stand a 3-9x to me there are just about as worthless as Pelosi. I would and did go with a 4-12x over a 3-9x.

Thanks Tango.

What's the feedback on the Bushnell Trophy line of scopes? I've been looking at a Bushnell Trophy XLT 6-18x40. The other option in my price range is a Nikon Pro-Staff 4-14x40.

The alternative is to just wait a while and save some more money and buy a better/more expensive scope. However, even then, $300. is probably my limit.
