scope for an older AR15
My father in law has an older Ar15 type rifle with the carring handle on it. Do the make scopes that mount on them?

Many ACOGs come with the carry handle mount.

Yes they make carry handle mounts. It does put the scope up pretty high and can set you up for some awkward cheek weld.

Best option is to get a flat top and build another upper that you could pop on if the indtended use really requires a scope. If not there is a certain elegant simplicity to the carry handle rifles and sights. They are fairly rugged and easy to use.

If you tell us what kind if use you are trying to mount an optic for then there may be other options out there.

I have ACOGs on two carry handle ARs. A bit "clumsy" to use, but well worth it to have the advantages of the ACOG.

But the standard mount does allow use of the iron sights.

I have an ACOG TA01 on my M16A1 carry handle and don't find it much of a problem with the check weld. A little awkward but not a big problem for me.

Do you want an optic scope, or a red dot holographic type scope? I have seen Trijicon and Mepro21s make scope mounts for the carry handle AR's. Instead of sitting high, above the mbus, they sit forward of the handle, and you use the mbus to co-witness through the holographic sight.

see post #6.

I've seen many Red Dots and Holosights, and even a couple of long eye relief scopes mounted on carry handle rifles like the one in Anna's picture. This set up works very well.

I prefer the ACOG mounted on the handle, but that's personal preference for the ACOG, not criticism of the forward mounting system.

Yes, a cantilever carry handle mount Like the one in anna's picture would be good for a red dot or holographic sight where eye relief is not a concern.

Only problem would be if you were using magnified optics. Then the distance that the scope sits from the eye becomes a factor.
