Default Replacement Iron sights for 10/22

I recently bought a 10/22 Takedown (first gun) and was curious about the various types of iron sights. Right now I'm using the stock gold bead but sometimes its hard to see.

What replacement iron sights are available and would I be able to install them myself?

Yes there are many different sights available. Yes it is a diy project. It will take much much longer to decide what you want than it takes to change them. I suggest fiber optic sights but you will want to look and make your own choice. Try Brownells or midwayusa they both have many choices and are both excellent companies.

First off, get a Williams or Lyman receiver rear sight (peep sight.) Then a good fibre optic front and you're set.

In the meantime, a black magic marker over the front will work wonders.

A black magic marker over the front? To color the brass dot black?

Thats what ive done to most of my firearms. I use bright green nail polish and put it on the front sight. It works great for me.

I really like Skinner aperture peep sights. I have them on my Marlin 336. I just bought a standard 10/22. I'm not going to be buying a receiver-mounted peep sight, though. I'll be installing Skinner's barrel-mounted peep sights.
