Here is a good experiment for you. I you or a friend have a rifle with a red-dot type optic on it, put it in a vise, adjust the vise so that the dot is centered on a terrain feature that you'll remember. Now, move your head up and down, and side to side behind the optic. Watch what the dot "Does."

I have this on my AR.
Trijicon, Inc. : Brilliant Aiming Solutions
I have an Aimpoint on a Ruger 22/45 that stays true all the time. As far as the red dot goes, I can't explain it, but I know for a fact that it doesn't matter where the dot is in relation to the center of the display, the bullet will hit where the dot is (if it's sighted in correctly). This is what makes the red dot system so great, you don't have to worry about sight picture like you do with open sights. Quicker on target, easier also on a moving target. My 2 cts.

As long as it's zeroed, it'll still hit where the dot is.
The annoying part is zeroing it in. I always have more trouble zeroing in red dots than I do iron sights 'cause I fidget to much and don't always maintain the same cheek weld.

I have one with 3 dots. The idea is to sight in the top dot at say 50 yards and the bottom dot will be set on some longer distance. What does the instructions say?
If multi-dot sights blend or blur together then the power is set too high. The power should be set where you can just see the dot depending on light conditions.
