Default Real Eotech vs Fake?

Is there any visible differences between a real Eotech 552 sight system and a chinese knockoff?

I'm about to purchase a used 552 Eotech off a friend of mine and I'm always on edge about purchasing used gun products off people because there are alot of chinese clones out there. I almost bought a fake grippod off someone a while ago, thankfully I researched it prior to the purchase.

Thanks for the input.

They did pirate them on the outside but the insides are much different.

L-3 EOTech has become aware of several counterfeit offerings of the HWS and magnifier product line. Produced in China and Korea, and distributed throughout the US, these counterfeit products are red-dot sights built to look exactly like a Holographic Weapon Sight on the outside. Often, the appearance between the genuine EOTech products and the counterfeits is nearly indiscernible, including replications of registered trademarks. These counterfeit items are often marketed towards recreational Air-soft use and WILL NOT:

* Withstand recoil or shock consistent with small to medium weaponry
* Consistently hold or maintain battle zero
* Withstand drop tests or excessive shock
* Offer any waterproof protection
* Offer the advantages provided by true holographic technology
* Offer dependable, reliable performance for any military, LE or competitive real weapon application

To assist in identifying a counterfeit product, you should look for the following:

* Uncommon batteries. The Counterfeit products often, but not always require several small hearing aid style batteries
* A product that offers interchangeable Red and Green reticle colors
* Highly reflective optics
* Visible LED light position inside the sight cavity
* The NV push button switches the LED to a different color instead of to a night vision mode
* Lack of EOTech manufacturing and serial number sticker

indyfan, I forgot to add;

you should find the serial number and manufacturing sticker on the bottom of the Eotech, and some of the fakes didn't have the yellow sticker on the left side of the sight.

Well, here is the Eotech I purchased off my friend. Turns out it's a 512. It seems pretty legit, the only thing I noticed is that when I was using it inside my house, when I pointed it outside my back door in the afternoon, the reticle disappeared and I had to boost it way up to see it again.

I ran about 70 rounds with it on, it was pretty accurate at 25 yards. Shot about 2 inches low, but my friend said that was normal. Told me something about sighting it in that way. It did have the Eotech sticker on the bottom saying made in the USA and the address.

Indyfan

The EOTech Model 512 should come on it light setting 12 in the middle of the total available light settings which range from 0-20 on the EOTech. If you hit the down arrow to adjust the reticle to the amount of indoor light. Then if you go outside it is normal for you to need to turn up the intensity of the reticle to compensate for the sun or additional light. Also if the rifle is sighted in at 50 or 100 yards it is normal for the impact to hit a couple of inches low at 25 yards. This is because the line of sight and the line of rifle bore is at two different levels. The sight should not be sighted in at 25 yards anyway. This would cause it to be high at 100 yards. It sighted in at 50 or 100 it should hit low at the distance between the center of the reticle in the optics and the actual bore. For example if the scope or optic center was to be 3 inches above the bore of the rifle. The bullet would hit 3" low at 25 if zeroed for 50 or 100 yards.
