Open reflex sight for mini 14

Hi all, was wondering what was a good open reflex sight for the ruger mini 14. It will need to mount to an Ultimak rail. I am aware of the Burris fastfire series. Are there any others? I would like the reflex red dot sight to be open (like a little window). No tube/scope suggestions please. Thank you in advance!

out of curiosity what is your price range? that makes a huge difference with the range of optics available.

as you already know, i can't help you much. do you have a big sporting goods store (cabelas, bass pro) where you can get the opportunity to look through several different models?

i always try to narrow it down to a half dozen scopes/red dots through research and reviews, then i do my best to get my mitts on as many as i can. you can never really know till you look through them & handle them yourself.

sorry, best advice i can offer with my limited experience with red dots/reflex sights. it is a mess out there with so many models/brands to chose from. its really overload sometimes.

good luck.

any reason for not considering a true 1-4 or an aimpoint?? you give up a lot of capability limiting yourself like that. but its your choice :)

the lightest toughest no magnification optic is the trijicon rmr. ive got the rmr08 i think i would go with the battery powered model

I went through this for months. Depending on your use for the gun there are several good options. A Trijicon 1-4 as Jon recommends or a comparable scope from Leupold or a handful of other companies are good options if you need magnification and want a scope over the action. Plus you can use the 1x and illumination for close range work. A scout scope is decent if you want limited magnification for short range shooting. A forward mounted red dot is good for short range and quick acquisition. It really just depends on how you plan to use the gun, and what your budget is.

This is exactly the type of optic I was referring to! Thank you very much for this. Is there anything similar but slightly cheaper? I paid almost that for the gun itself, lol. I'm willing to spend about $250 max. If not, I'm willing to save up for the trijicon rmr. Can anyone attest to the reliable and quality of the trijicon rmr? Thank you in advance.

Or this one: TruGloŽ Multireticle/Tru-Brite. It's about $130.00

my local wal mart has a little bushnell reflex sight for about $130 I believe

In your price range of $250 the only game in town is the Burris Fastfire III. anything less is probably a waste of money. Next up are the Trijicons at about 2x the price.

well, as the true cheapskate on this thread........:p

$29.99!!!! :D
