Had near the same problem with a VXII some years ago (eye relief at magnification). VXI's are kinda sketchy also. The VXIII seem to work much better than the VXII in this area but they are a bit more money. The VXIII I have now which is a 4.5-14X40 is a nice scope and works very well, however, for the just under $600.00 including Ca. sales tax I paid for it, theyre may be better choices for the price.
Regardless, I wouldn't go less in quality with Leupold than the VXIII series which IMO is a pretty good piece of glass.

Got an older Tasco World Class 10-40X60 from my pops this Christmas. Don't know a whole bunch about it other than what he told me. He said it was fairly old, and came from a time when Tasco still built high quality as opposed to price point optics. It's a monster, side parallax, 1/8" target turrets, illuminated mildot-bar reticle, sunshade. I will take some photos of it tonight, but I was wondering if any of you guys out there are familiar with this scope?

He is right. Tasco used to make some decent high end glass back in the day. That is a very good quality scope. I seen a guy that had one I asked him why he had a tasco on his $2k varmint rifle. He said here look through it then look through this Leupold. The Tasco was on par or slightly better than the Leupold.

Most of the guys I know that use the VXII use a 2-7 or 3-9. The eye relief was a big factor on why I went w/ the Sightron SII years ago. The 3-12AO was my 1st. Love it. When I bought my CZ527, I also bought a Bushnell 4-12, and did not care fore it at all, so I replaced it w/ a 6.5-20AO SII. Night and day. When I was looking for a good hunting scope for my BLR, I decided to give the 3-9 SI a try. Again, not a single issue and real nice glass for a low budget scope. Mind you, I don't think I have ever moved that SI off of 3..4.

See what I am realy asking is , next time we go to white swamp [ White Swan] I want to get a scope that if I destroy it on the hunt It wont give me a lump in the throat . Cause last time I took a beautiful new Burris signature with all the bells and whistles and it came back... in very bad shape because of the nature of the hunt. AS every one always says you get what you pay for... but Is there a mid priced scope that stands out to anyone that can take a licking and keep on ticking at least for one Good hunt?
