A good Scope and power for .17HMR
Was wondering what a good scope and power for a .17 HMR, with a max price of $300. It will be used for varmint hunting guessing a max range up to
150 yards.

Take a look at this - BARSKA 3-9x32 Plinker-22 Riflescope

Price: $38.99 Eligible for free shipping with Amazon Prime. BARSKA 3-9x32 Plinker-22 Riflescope: Sports & Outdoors

I have it on my 22LR and I am happy with it. Not the best but works fine. Great value IMHO and if you are not just lost $39.00.

I would probably go with a Bushnell Elite 4200 3X9. You can go on the Internet and find one for under $200.00. Retail on them is around $299.00. They are fine scopes with clear good glass. I believe somewhere around 95% light transmission which means it is very clear when looking through it. In optics you get what you pay for. And a good scope should last for years with trouble free operation. This would make you an excellent 17 HMR Scope for target and light varmint hunting.

4-12X40 to 4-16X40. Nikon, Vortex, Bushnell, Weaver. You will probably be shooting at very small targets. All 4 listed will have a scope in your price range.

I have a Weaver V-Classic in 4-16x42AO and it's an excellent piece. Also don't forget the Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 for a little under $200. Made by Leupold, also excellent scope, but doesn't have AO. I have one, but in 2-7x33 mounted on a little Marlin 44Mag and it takes quite the pounding and it stays focused and zeroed. Another good little scope for around $125, that some folks don't like, and that is Simmons. I have a newer Model 4-12x44 with side focus and it's got some really clear glass, and stays focused on my Ruger 77/22 in 22magnum. There's also Burris FullfieldII for around that $300 or less. I've got 2 of their 3-9x40's and they have great glass/reliability.

i put a BSA Sweet 17 6-18x40 on my savage M93r17 and am very happy with it so far. i paid like $160+ tax for it new. i didn't go with a more expensive scope because the 17 has almost no recoil, so i knew it wouldn't be a problem. BSA scopes are okay, not the greatest, not the worst. i have a couple of them that came on other rifles that were on them when i bought them. for what i spent on the rifle and scope, i'm still less than $400 in it.

Well I went with a Nikon pro staff BDC, I wanted a silver scope to match the gun. It's pretty hard to find silver scopes these days. Ordered from optic plant which was free shipping and no tax, so not too bad of a deal.
