Default Good Scope for M&P15 Sport?

I'm waiting to pick up my Sport and need advice on the optics. I will be using it mostly as a target/range gun and some varminting. Maximum range will be sub 300m. The price is as close to $200 as I can keep it. The Bushnell Trophy Xlt 3-9x40 looks to be about what I'm after. I'm not after top of the line, just good value. Also what kind of mounting rings are needed?

I'm looking into the Nikon scopes for mine. I think the M223? IIRC is pretty decent looking.

If you're looking for a simple reticle, you might consider the Redfield Revolution scopes. Their 2-7x33 or the 3-9x40 are very nice optics. I prefer the standard 4-plex reticule. Great eye relief and optical clarity.

I cannot speak to rings as I'm new to the AR platform - old M1A guy lookin' to go light

That would be my advice. With the kit, mounting rings are included. $325-$350 at SWFA.
