Default Custom night sights

I'm toying with the idea of night sights. It seems that even a cheap set of night sights runs about $80. I'm going to try to make my own by drilling a spare set of sights and inserting a piece of fiber optic cable. Has anybody tried using anything but green, red, or orange?

I'm going to see how a clear cable functions since its so much cheaper. Has anybody tried different kinds? Also to anybody who has done this, where did you buy your fiber optic rods?

Just save the money and get real night sights. In the long run, you'll be glad you did.

Fiber optic sights are usually longer than a drilled traditional sight and the top is exposed to gather light.

i have to agree with the last two posts. probably be much better in the long run, just sucking it up and buying a set.

i will also add that fiber optic sights need some sort of light source to be able to work. in darkness they are pretty much useless.

Exactly. Don't confuse fiber optic technology with tritium, the necessary self-illuminating isotope of hydrogen from which true night sights are made.

If you desire higher visibility sights that also have tritium for low-light situations, look into Truglow's TFO products. I have a set on my EDC XD-40 and find them to be excellent, and they're no more expensive than traditional tritium sights.

The problem is, im having a hard time finding them for a p11. This idea was sparked by this page...

http://www.thektog.org/forum/f84/installing-fiber-optic-sights-p11-245467/

So its obviously been done, but im wondering if there are any ways to improve the concept. Im only curious about cost because this pistol retails for about $300, so manufactured sights are about 1/3-1/2 of the cost.
