You can get cut to length rails on ebay, brownells and many other places. most are cheap and made of alum.

DefaultPic Rails

I have 2 older rifles that have bases made for the ancient scopes that had external adjustments on the scope rings. Wanted to bridge the distance between the front and rear bases with a custom length rail and mount modern scopes on it (them). I know I could try and have new bases mounted, but don't know of any reputable gunsmiths around. One of the rifles has P O Ackley stamped on the barrel, quite the barrel maker in his day.

thanks

Both Burris and Leupold offer gun maker bases. These are bases in the white where only the machining was done for mounting the rings. the mount is in the white and ready to be machined to fit your rifle and scope.

I have to have this done myself. I have Leupold adjusto mounts for an old Leupold westerner scope that didn't have any adjustments on the scope they were done with the bases.
