I'll tell you what I have on mine-a 2.5x-8x. I have a Leupold and a couple of Weaver in that range. That way you have the option of turning your adjustment range from 2.5x-4x (hunting), to 8x (bench shooting & zeroing).Weaver Classic Pistol Scope 2.5-8x 28mm Dual-X Reticle Silver - MidwayUSA

I am looking at the Leupold M8 4x and Simmons gold medal.
I agree, that is why I am leaning towards fixed power.
Perhaps on my 30 Bellm that I can use for deer in IL I may opt for a variable as this caliber is accurate out to 150 yards.
I bet you would get more responses to your many questions if you just went over to the "Introductions" thread and told us a little about yourself!

Burris 3-12x that is what I would go for.
I don't know if I would need all that power and doubt I could get a clear sight picture at high magnification unless shooting from a rest. I do have some Burris scopes with posi lock and like them.
