May want to look at the Nikon m-308 scope Nikons are on sale right now may be able to pick up for a good price

I just picked up a Nikon buckmaster 3-9x40 at Cabelas for $119 before tax. I guess they were trying to series them out for the prostaff 5 line. It was in the bargain cave with several other silver ones but I got the last matte finish.

If you plan to hunt hogs I would avoid high magnification scopes. High magnification is OK for target shooting. Hunting is a different game. You will find yourself taking shots while you are breathing heavy after a sprint up a hill to get to a spot for a great shot. You need to be able to cover ranges from 3 to 300 yards instantly. Often game is going to surprise you. Animals will walk right up to you without giving you an opportunity to raise your rifle, much less adjust a scope.

You might want to consider more research before purchasing a scope. No one here has been to the places you plan to hunt. You haven't mentioned the techniques you plan to use to get in range of the animals.

Good advice!!!!


If you plan on SHTF, why a big bell scope?? It has to be mounted high, makes for a crappy cheek wield, and skylines you. You want a good 2-7x32mm or 4-32mm scope.

A 7 power at 300 yards is a peice of cake. That would look like a 42 yard shot.

Burris

I do think for $300 you can get a scope that will do everything you want out to 300 yards and be reliable too.
