Default Best Scope Magnification

What scope magnification would be best for shots anywhere from 200 feet to 300 yards?

What are you shooting at? Hunting? Range/target? Other?
What sort of conditions will you be doing this shooting in?
Type of weapon?
Without knowing the intended use I'd simply steer you toward a 3 to 9 variable assuming we are talking about a typical hunting rifle. Thats likely to cover most general use.

Savage Model 111 FCNS, deer hunting and target practice, conditions vary. I will mostly be practicing in the spring. In Alabama our spring weather is anywhere from 65-80 degrees with 5-15 mph winds.

3-9x then, as stated above.

my personal pref for deer hunting is 1-4x but my deer gun serves as anti-hog anti-yote roles so the 1x is really helpful for fast movers. i like a true 1x not all 1-4x have true 1x.

depending on how good your eyesight is 4x is more than enough at 200 yards.
